Travel Tips for Getting Around Las Vegas and Vegas Casinos

1.) Choose your airport transportation wisely.
Taking a taxi to your hotel will cost you about $15 – 20. If you do decide to take a taxi, be sure to tell your driver not to take the freeway. The freeway will add dollars to your fare because it’s less direct, but some cab drivers will take you there anyway to rack up a higher fare. Taxis are a very efficient way to get to your strip hotel. Shuttle buses are cheaper and cost around $6, but you may spend an hour on the shuttle bus before you get to your hotel. If you’re traveling in a group, you can arrange for limousine transportation. You can all split the cost of a limousine, which will have a total cost of around $60. If you have six or more, this is actually cheaper than taking a taxi, but you’ll need to be going to the same hotel (or hotels located in close proximity to each other). Certain express buses will take you from the airport to downtown for only $2. They’re a well-kept Las Vegas secret. Do your research to ensure they’ll be stopping near your hotel.
2.) Don’t expect to be able to flag down a taxi on the Vegas strip.
Taxis are not allowed to stop on the strip. You won’t be able to flag one down, even if you’re a New York native. You’d be better off going to the designated taxi zone of your hotel and getting one there. Cab fare can get expensive, so why not see if anyone in your hotel is going to the same casino as you?
3.) Don’t be afraid to walk. The entire strip may look immense, but it’s only four miles long. You’d walk the same amount of miles at a theme park. It sure beats pricy cab fares. You’ll discover the strip better on foot, anyway. Just be sure to pack comfortable shoes.
